Alan Morrison`s Conducting appointments since 1978Alan was given his first Musical Directorship at 19 years of age with the Lingdale Silver Band. Since then he has had associations with numerous bands, most of which are listed here. This is a list of bands that Alan Morrison has been appointed Musical Director of:- Lingdale Silver 1978-1982 This is a list of bands that Alan Morrison has conducted at some point over the last 20 odd years:- AMOCO In 1978 Alan gained his first appointment as a Musical Director, at the age of 19, with the Lingdale Silver Band from East Cleveland. Struggling in the lower reaches of the 3rd section an immediate impact was made with success in local club entertainment contests and a 1st prize at the Durham League Grading Contest. Lingdale qualified for London several times with Alan, gaining prizes also in the National Finals, and the association was a happy one for many years. When Alan`s playing commitments with Grimethorpe forced him to relinquish the position the band was on the verge of the Championship Section where it stayed for a number of years. In his early years at Grimethorpe Alan conducted the Sirdar Wakefield Band
for a short time but shelved his conducting ambitions for a couple of years to
concentrate on building his successful playing career. This obviously paid off
well, and it was mid-1986 when he was persuaded to take on the Allerton Bywater
Colliery Band, This band had been defunct for several years and a sponsor was found to try
and raise it to the heights. The rise of this band was incredible - from 2
players at the start in April 1989 to 2nd section by 1992 gaining 2nd & 3rd
prizes at London, then to the verge of the Championship Section by the time Alan
left in September 1995. This was probably the biggest disappointment of Alan`s
career. He had built a band from nothing to Championship potential and had it
taken away from him through no fault of his own. He was looking forward to
challenging the big names of banding with this band but it all went From there, Alan had already left Grimethorpe and had taken on the Rothwell Band from Leeds as Musical Director, he later moved to Sellers International and had a very successful 3 years before returning to mainstream playing with Richard Evans and the JJB Sports Leyland Band. In December 2006 Alan was appointed Musical Director and Principal Conductor of the world famous Brighouse & Rastrick Band.
